Things to know

Easy access transport

Sipadan is the only oceanic island in Malaysia, rising 600 metres from the seabed. It is located in the Celebes Sea off the east coast of Sabah, Malaysia. It was formed by living corals growing on top of an extinct volcanic cone that took thousands of years to develop.

Regular divers at Sipadan agree that March to May are probably the very best months with peak visibility (20 to 30m), calm seas and sunshine. November and into early December are also often included in the very best times. Months such as June, July and October regularly deliver excellent conditions too.

Fly from Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan or Kuala Lumpur into the town of Tawau, followed by a 45mins drive to the coastal town of Semporna. From Semporna, its another 45 – 60 mins speedboat ride to Sipadan Island, depending on the sea and weather condition. Semporna is the departure point for many of Sabah’s top dive sites.

Home to thousands of turtles, schooling sharks, swirling barracuda, and awe-inspiring coral walls dropping more than 600m straight down. Sipadan is frequently voted as the worlds number 1 dive destination. Steep walls, gently sloping reefs, artificial reefs and world class muck-diving sites.
