Mount Kinabalu is the highest mountain in Borneo and Malaysia. With an elevation of 4,095 metres, it is the third-highest peak of an island on Earth, the 28th highest peak in Southeast Asia, and 20th most prominent mountain in the world.

Climbing Mt Kinabalu can be done in 2 days but a more comfortable climb in 3-days are recommended to acclimatise to the altitude and fully enjoy the rich biological diversity – the exotic rare plants, orchids, birds and many more. While it does not require skills to do the climb, climbers must at least have a basic fitness level. Park regulations require climbers have to engage the services of a registered mountain guide. The numbers of guides depend on the number of climbers. Porters services are available and recommended. Book and pay for your mountain guide and porter at the Kinabalu Park.

Kundasang is the closest town to Mount Kinabalu, and it is a famous holiday spot among both locals and tourists alike. Since it is very close to Mount Kinabalu, you can expect cool and refreshing air, as well as a stunning view of the mountain and the surrounding topography.

The Kinabalu Park entrance is very easy to reach from Kota Kinabalu. First option is to catch a minivan from the Long Distance Bus station near Night Market in city centre, which will drive directly to the Park HQ. Minivans leave when full, cost RM15 each way and the journey takes 1.5 hours.
