The George Town Festival is an annual cultural festival held within the city of George Town in Penang, Malaysia. Inaugurated in 2010, the festival was initially mooted to celebrate the inscription of George Town as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The city is described by UNESCO as having a “unique architectural and cultural townscape” that is shaped by centuries of intermingling between various cultures and religions. It has also gained a reputation as Malaysia’s gastronomical capital for its distinct culinary scene.

George Town was named after King George III, who ruled the British Empire between 1760 and 1801. Francis Light’s grave in the Old Protestant Cemetery in George Town.
